Living costs
Question for people who live in rented (or owned accomodation if you are the house holder):
How much do you pay a month on bills on average?
This excludes rent and council tax. I'm not really interested in a phone line for quite sometime as well.

Thanks for any input, x

I have a 2 bed terrace in south yorkshire, our bills are:
£42 gas & electricity
£20 water - we only pay this march - december I think...
£11 tv license
£30 for telewest phone/broadband/tv
£27 buildings & contents insurance
+ food

me and my boyfriend both put £400 into our joint bank account each month and we pretty much spend every penny!

Does council tax not cover water bills?

I think your prices sound the most accurate for what my potential flat would be. It'll be a studio or 1 bedroomed flat.

Cheers.

nope, your water is seperate. though normally you dont pay water rates from november-april. well, that's what mine does.

your expenses will depend completely on a lot of things. for example, when i lived in a 2 bed terrace, my gas & electricity was £30 each. it was a smaller house, and it had good windows to keep the heat in. whereas my new house has old windows & the heat leaves the house really quickly. hence i pay more than double for gas now.
also, depending on how much light you get naturally will depend on how much you switch your lights on etc. we dont get much light on the front from the windows, and our lights are always on.
you really wont know until you move in & start paying.

If you live in Scotland, yes. Well, mine does anyway :)
